The number of measurement tools developed and/or adapted in order to set forth play period of preschool children in Turkey is considerably limited. For this reason the purpose of this study is to conduct the adaptation study of the “Preschool Play Behaviour Scale” for 5-6 year old children. The group of the study comprised of 180 children, aged between 5 and 6, attending kindergartens of primary schools governed by the Ministry of National Education, located in Central Denizli. “The Preschool Play Behaviour Scale”, the subject of this adaptation study, was developed by Robert J. Coplan and Kenneth H. Rubin in 1998 in order to determine the personal behaviours young children displayed while playing, based on the views of their teachers. The internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach Alpha) and the test re-test reliabilities of the overall scale and its sub-scales were calculated within the context of reliability studies. Content validity, item analysis, and structure validity were conducted on the Turkish version within the context of validity studies. The correlation between the overall scale and its sub-scales, and the correlation between the sub-scales were identified during structure validity. Children were asked what their favourite game was, and teachers were asked what the children’s favourite games were during criteria validity. Study results concluded that the Turkish version of the “Preschool Play Behaviour Scale” was a reliable and valid measurement tool to set forth play period of children aged between 5 and 6.
